Virtual Rock Band and Group Classes

Email: info@replaymusicstudios.com

This Fall, Replay will offer all band programs and lessons online. Our philosophy and teaching approach remain the same – our primary goal is to create an environment where every child feels inspired to express their musical voice and every band develops a personality to call its own. We will continue to balance learning cover songs while always encouraging original songwriting. New opportunities include recording and vocal classes. Live performances are replaced by collaborative split-screen music videos. Private lessons are always available.

Virtual Band Project (VBP)

This is an exciting new approach that allows kids to collaborate with other young musicians to create a music video of a live performance of a song.

    • Through a combination of band meetings, individual lessons and practice time, the teacher helps to guide the students through the process of learning their song parts, honing their instrumental skills and video recording their performances.
    • Our staff will then edit the individual audio/video recordings into a video of the band performing the song together.
    •  Kids will be placed in groups of 3-5 players/singers
    • One band video edit is included in each 6-week session. Additional editing fee applies for additional videos.
    • Includes weekly 1-hour group lessons and 30-minute private lessons.

“The Virtual Band Project was terrific! We love the tune and the boys sound really good together! I can tell that the students and teacher put a lot of effort into this – you guys rock!”

Recording Classes

In today’s world, a professional recording studio is often just a few clicks away. Musicians of all genres and experience levels can use ever-pervasive apps and software to write songs, demo arrangements, and create high-quality recordings at home.

RECORDING 101 (Weekly 1-hour group lessons)

  • Students will use Soundtrap to record beats, voice, real and virtual instruments, all from their own home.
  • Students will learn about the use of effects, such as reverb, delay and EQ, which can help turn a song into a finished production.
  • The tools learned here can be applied to all styles of music, including hip-hop/rap, pop, dance, and much more.
  • Focus will be given to collaboration with other students in the class, in addition to helping students create sounds they can call their own.
  • Ages 9-12: Tuesdays at 4:00pm
  • Ages 13-18: Wednesdays (Sep-Oct) at 5:30pm; Mondays (Nov-Dec) at 5:30pm

LOGIC PRO RECORDING INTENSIVE (Weekly 1-hour group lessons plus 30-min private lessons)

  • Students will use industry-standard software Logic Pro X to explore the power and versatility of a home-recording set-up.
  • Topics covered include: creative and utility effects that create musicality and clarity in a production, synthesizer/sequencer basics, audio manipulation, and much more.
  • Techniques learned will be applied to individual and group projects focusing on the music each individual student wants to make, whether that is dance, hip-hop, singer-songwriter or anything in between.
  • Thursdays, 5:00-6:00pm

* If you are interested in the Logic Pro Recording Intensive but do not have access to a Mac computer or the software, please let us know.

Virtual Vocal Project

Anyone can be a multi-instrumentalist! In this specialized version of our Virtual Band Project, students will learn how to create a multi-part arrangement of a song all by themselves using the A Capella App on their phone. Students will learn how to sing in harmony with themselves, and get creative to create textures in their arrangements using ‘instruments’ from around the house. They will also learn how to optimize phone-recording techniques and create fun video content!  In this class you will:

  • Learn to sing in harmony
  • Learn how to arrange a song
  • Train your ear
  • Optimize phone recording techniques
  • Create fun video content

Wednesdays at 4:00pm (Sep-Oct); Mondays at 4:00pm (Nov-Dec)

* Virtual Vocal Project includes weekly 1-hour group lessons and 30-minute private lessons

Songwriting

Young songwriters will be put into groups based on age and work with a teacher to develop skills that explore the art of songwriting.

SONGWRITING FUNDAMENTALS (Weekly 1-hour group lessons)

  • Students will learn a personalized songwriting process that will take them from idea exploration all the way through revision. We will use listening examples to discuss topics in lyric writing, chord progressions, and basic song structures. Our young writers will also learn best practices in giving and receiving helpful feedback.
  • There is an opportunity for a young songwriter to go deeper by following this class with our Songwriting Intensive class that includes weekly one on one instruction in addition to group lessons.
  • Ages 9-12: Tuesdays at 4:00pm
  • Ages 13-18: Tuesdays at 5:30pm

SONGWRITING INTENSIVE (Weekly 1-hour group lessons plus 30-min private lessons)

  • Each student will dig deeper into songwriting and learn more about lyric and melody writing, music theory, song structure, and arrangement.
  • Along with group feedback, our intensive program will include private songwriting lessons that will provide individualized coaching and personalized feedback.
  • By participating in our VBP or Recording class, students can expand this opportunity and take these songs out of their notebooks and into the world!
  • Ages 11-13: Mondays at 4:00pm (Sep-Oct); Wednesdays at 4pm (Nov-Dec)
  • Ages 14-18: Thursdays at 6:00pm

The Reviews Are In

Authentic experience

“Replay engages kids in an authentic band experience that’s instructive, creative, and wildly fun.”

Peta

Mom of band member, vocal and keyboard student

creative collaboration

“Replay coach Dan promotes a strong ethic of creative collaboration among band members. He’s helped our son fully realize his creative ideas, taking them from notes scratched on paper to full-blown songs. As we’ve all been forced to work remotely, he’s kept the creative songwriting process going through collaborative recording projects.”

Michael

Dad of 16 year old band member and drummer

Remarkable Progress

“John combines his expertise in drumming and teaching with a great sense of humor, which results in high quality, fun lessons. The progress my daughter made was remarkable. John’s lessons are above and beyond teaching technique and providing a solid base to build upon: his experience as a performer and attention to individual needs allowed for lessons specifically geared to prepare for upcoming performances.”
