What Replay does:
Replay Music Studios is the only rehearsal space that, with the click of a mouse, provides both the professional and aspiring musician with a live audio/video recording experience in addition to offering eight to 18 year olds an education-oriented band coaching program using this exclusive technology.
What Replay believes:
High quality, personalized service and attention to detail matter. Every generation counts. Music is for everybody.
Replay founder and director John Rubin is a noted drummer who has been playing and recording in the New York City area for over 20 years. Having a place to make music with friends has always been a source of happiness for him and it’s an experience he wants other folks to have. With Replay Music Studios, he has built a cozy oasis for music and the people who make it.
Rubin got his start where musicians so often do: in the basement of the house he grew up in. Making noise soon turned into making music. An accomplished drummer, Rubin has played at CBGB’s, The Bottom Line, Symphony Space, Webster Hall, and The Mercury Lounge.
After 15 years spent as a child therapist and social worker, Rubin recently returned to his roots, fusing his love of drumming with his commitment to children’s well-being. He founded Replay Music Studios in 2012.
As a gigging musician and father to a musical son and daughter, Rubin saw a need for a rehearsal studio that caters to all musicians, from newbies to pros, from children to adults. High-end equipment suitable for professionals is central. All studios are wired with an innovative audio/video recording system. The quality of the equipment helps inspire artistry in musicians of every level and age.
Replay is the only rock band program and rehearsal studio in New York City where teen and adult musicians share a space to create and perform.
Founded and directed by veteran musician John Rubin, Replay is not your run-of-the-mill rock school nor is it your grungy midtown Manhattan rehearsal studio. Instead, Replay is a place where musicians of any age will want to go to create music and produce high-quality video recordings using state-of-the-art equipment at reasonable prices.
THE REPLAY DIFFERENCE
Replay Music Studios is a high-tech, low-key environment that serves two communities, offering rock band coaching to kids and teens, and rehearsal space to adults. Replay’s trained staff of professional musicians provides the same high level of service to everybody.
The Replay Rehearsal Space Difference:
No other rehearsal space in New York City is quite like Replay Music Studios. Rooms are equipped with high-end gear like Orange amps, Presonus mixing boards and GMS drums in clean, bright, modern rooms. Maintained by a staff of musicians and technicians, the equipment at Replay consistently functions at a top level.
Unavailable anywhere else, Replay’s audio/video recording system, offered in each of the three fully backlined studios, is simple to operate. The combination of efficient soundproofing and acoustic treatments provides a “live” sound that stays in the room. To manage the recording process, computers are installed in every studio. Musicians can easily print out lyrics downloaded from the web as well as use resources like Spotify and YouTube.
Replay Music Studios is close to subway stops and bus routes and is housed in a landmark building in a residential neighborhood.
The Replay Rock Band Program Difference:
No other rock band program in New York City is quite like the one at Replay Music Studios. Hard work goes into forming groups so that kids have the right instructor based on their interests and abilities. The staff at Replay Music Studios respects the musical style and personality of every student. Young musicians are treated as emerging artists. They receive the tools and support they need to make music that is expressive, honest and distinct.
Instruction is customized for every group Replay coaches. Kids and teens are encouraged to create and perform “what feels true.” Collaboration is a big part of what distinguishes Replay from other rock band programs. Listening to other musicians is essential. The Replay staff believes band dynamics are as important as the music itself. This sentiment is woven into all Replay programming.
Replay urges its students to try their hand at writing original material both individually and in groups. Bands work together to craft their own songs here. No two musicians are alike. At Replay Music Studios, instruction is tailored to the individual.
